Obituary for Brent Starr Dawson

Brent Starr Dawson was born in Denver County Hospital on April 13, 1950 to Gordan and Helen Dawson, and died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado on November 15, 2019. He was 69 years old, and a lifelong Colorado resident. Having lived in Glenwood Springs and Pagosa Springs during his career in public relations and Grand Junction during his salesman years.
Brent grew up in Bear Valley in Denver. He enjoyed many hours of fishing and hunting with his brothers. Graduating from John F. Kennedy High School class 1968. He worked in a gas station and went to college at CSU class 1974. Environmental Interpretation was his passion. For two years he was with the Greybull Wyoming Hot Shots. Then he worked in public relations for Mid Continent, Holy Cross Power, Grand Valley Power and in Pagosa Springs at Tri State Power. Being part of his community as part of the Kiwanis and Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce. Brent turned to sales and sold cars for Ed Bozarth and Fucco known as ‘Ranger Dawson’. Then he sold advertising for Yellow book, which took him all over Colorado. With his camera, fishing pole or firearm he spent every moment that he could enjoying the outdoors and sharing its glory. Brent retired in 2012.
“Never give an Inch” and “Fly High” were his motto's as he battled thru back pain. Surgery at Mayo clinic gave him another 2 decades of working, fishing and hunting. He suffered several life-threatening major illnesses over the years that he overcame, becoming well known at St. Mary’s Hospital as a tough survivor. ALS finally took his life. He spent the last few years telling stories to friends and great nephews and nieces, gardening, cooking and working on his book “SMOKE” which he hoped to have published.
Preceding him in death are his parents and 3 brothers; Bill (William), Bruce and Jimmy (James); two nephews, Bo and Luke; and one great nephew Joey (Joseph).
Brent is survived by his two children, Angela and Tony (Anthony) and two grandchildren, Paisley and Ruger. He is survived by his brother Bob (Robert) and two nieces Debbie Smith and Hannah, three nephews Clint, Mathew and Chad. Along with several great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Masonic Lodge 2400 Consistory Ct, Grand Junction, CO 81501 at 1 PM reception to follow.
The scattering of Brent’s ashes will be in the summer of 2020 at the Cimarron.
