Obituary for Jose Natividad SAWYER

Jose Natividad Sawyer 87, of Grand Junction CO., passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on April 17, 2021. Jose was born in Valdez-Taos, New Mexico to Soladad (Sally) and Benito Sawyer on April 12, 1934. Growing up, he had 5 siblings. Jose moved to Grand Junction Colorado in 1950, where he met his beloved wife Nellie Romero at the age of 20. Jose and Nellie married on May 3rd, 1956 and shared 65 joyous memorable years together. The two built their home and raised their 9 children. Jose was a family man who took pride in his wife and children and ensured he had a strong bond with each of them. Jose remained close to all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout his years, loving them dearly. Jose also touched the lives of many others; family and friends.
Jose was also known for his strong work ethic; working at a young age. As a young teen, he started in the farms, worked as a logger, worked on the railroad, and then construction where he finally retired from Grand River Construction in Glenwood Springs CO., as an Asphalt/Laid down Operator Superintendent after 35 years of employment. Jose was a strong, prideful, easy going, wise, kind hearted man. Jose enjoyed the outdoors and had a strong passion for hunting and fishing. He always had a story to tell; sharing his memories with those around him. Jose lived a full life with a full heart. He was truly an amazing, one-of-a-kind man. His smile and laughter were contagious and will forever be missed!
Jose is survived by his wife; Nellie Sawyer, his nine kids; Joe (Judith) Sawyer, Ramona Sawyer, John (Sarah) Sawyer, Mary (Guy) Miller, Dale Sawyer, Arthur Sawyer, Tony (Adina) Sawyer, Manual Sawyer, Christopher Sawyer, 25 grand kids, 31 great grand kids and his sister ErLinda Galvan. He is preceded in death by his parents Benito Sawyer and Soladad (Sally) Padilla-Sawyer, his brothers and sisters; Roy Sawyer, Mary Villa, Rose Garza and Eddy Sawyer and his grandson Jimmy Jo (Slim) Sawyer.
Services: Rosary Wednesday, April 28th 7pm and Mass Friday, April 30th at 11am. Both services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Burial at Orchard Mesa will follow mass on Friday. Pot-luck reception following burial 2-6.
